Iowa Date Ideas: Local Favorites
These are relaxed, real-life ideas around Iowa that make it easier to talk and get to know each other.

Sports & Athletics Dates
Nothing brings people together like cheering for a home team. Whether it's a summer night at the ballpark or the energy of a college game day, sports dates are a great way to bond over authentic Iowa excitement.

Iowa Cubs Games
- Grab a seat behind home plate for the best view of the Des Moines skyline.
- Share a basket of ballpark fries or a local craft beer between innings.
- Stay for the post-game fireworks on Friday nights for a classic romantic finish.
- There is nothing like going to the Stu's Barbeque stand inside Principal Park which is a staple.

Iowa State Athletics
- Tailgate outside the stadium to soak in the community spirit before kickoff.
- Coordinate your colors for a basketball night at Hilton Coliseum.
- Enjoy one of the best atmospheres around.
- One of my most favorite Iowa State football games as an Iowa State fan was the Jack Trice legacy game getting to honor Jack Trice and ISU athletics throughout the years
Outdoor Adventure Ideas
For nature enthusiasts, Iowa offers a beautiful backdrop for meaningful connection. Whether it's a quiet walk or a night under the stars, these outdoor activities provide the perfect atmosphere for relaxed conversation. Days at the fair or outdoor country concerts can also be a fun, low-pressure way to walk around, talk, and people-watch together.

Scenic Hiking Path
Explore local Iowa trails where the scenery is beautiful and the pace is slow. It is one of the easiest ways to talk while enjoying the fresh air together.
Camping Under the Stars
Afternoon Disc Golf
Disc Golf is something I enjoy playing and getting to go around to the local courses in the Des Moines metro. This is a great way to get outside and experience nature with others.
There is nothing quite like a night spent by the fire. Pack some s'mores and enjoy a relaxed, real-life outdoor experience away from the noise. Getting out to some of the great state parks Iowa has to offer is awesome. Sharing a tent with someone special in your life is great.
Friendly Tip
Days at the fair or outdoor country concerts are fun, low-pressure ways to walk around, talk, and people-watch together.

Classic Cinema Dates
Going to the movies is a simple, low-pressure date that gives you something to talk about before and after the show. Grab popcorn, share a laugh or a good scare, and then keep the conversation going over ice cream or coffee nearby.
Country Concerts & Fairs
There’s nothing quite like the energy of a summer night in Iowa. Whether you’re at a show or the fair, it’s the perfect setting to just be yourselves together.

Country Concerts
Grab some lawn chairs and head to a local show. It’s a great way to enjoy live music, grab a cold drink, and just soak in the music without needing to talk over a loud crowd. One of my favorite concerts I have seen was Brooks & Dunn at the Iowa State Fair back in 2022 since they are my favorite artist of all time.

State & County Fairs
The fair is all about walking around, people-watching, and trying way too much food together. It’s a low-pressure way to spend a few hours just enjoying each other's company. I enjoy going to see the country music concerts that come to the Iowa State Fair and Warren County fair. The food is also top notch as well.
